Archive for December, 2006

All of those weeks and months of preparation. Making sure you’ve bought the right presents, making sure you’ve wrapped the presents, making sure you’ve got enough food, making sure the house is tidy. Then it’s all over in one day.

That being said, it was a fantastic day.

We were up at about 9am and had freshly baked croissants with butter and jam for breakfast. Then we sat and opened our presents.

Now, bear in mind that this Christmas was only my second “proper” Christmas. I was brought up in a family that didn’t celebrate Christmas and that’s why this one was such a big deal to me.

We sat and opened our presents, and I think we all did pretty well. I can now tell you what my fab idea for MBM was. It was some juggling clubs!!

When hubby opened his big present from me, the look on his face was brilliant. It was a cross between excitement and fear. The look of fear kicked in after I gave him the knee and elbow pads. I’d bought him a 3m power kite and a land board so he can go kite boarding. I also got him a game for the Xbox, some t-shirts, a book, a comic, a cd and a desk calendar.

I was obviously a very good girl this year as I got loads of stuff from Santa.

I got: From Hubby

  • an iPod nano
  • some pink and brown converse
  • a mug from Starbucks
  • a leather handbag
  • a shirt from gap
  • some chocolates

 From MBM

  • a Jack Vettriano calendar
  • Desperate Housewives Season 2 box set
  • A Chris Moyles Book
  • Cocktail Glasses
  • Cocktail recipe book
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Alcohol to make cocktails

Hubby and I got some joints presents off his parents and grandparents, such as kitchen stuff, duvet cover, photo frames (which now proudly display some wedding pictures) and a fantastic clock which is now in our kitchen!

I also got some Ghost perfume, a leather case for my iPod and a glitzy compact mirror to go in my handbag.

The most stressful part of the day was cooking the dinner. Although, hubby said I looked quite calm and collected. I think that was down to the endless supply of cocktails!!

The meat took longer to cook than expected and our oven isn’t big enough to fit all the food in (note – my next house needs to have a range cooker if I’m going to be hosting Christmas) so we didn’t actually eat until 17.30.  I cooked too much, but who doesn’t? Hubby, MBM and myself were the only ones who finished dinner!

After dinner we all sat and played with our new presents for a while. Hubby was like a big kid, sat on the floor building Slave 1 out of Lego. That was his big pressie off’ve MBM.

We then played Monopoly until the early hours and everybody got made bankrupt by my father-in-law! A family tradition, I’m led to believe! A good day had by all I think. Roll on next year!!

Two More Sleeps ’til Santa

Christmas is really, truly, nearly here!

I’m still a teensy bit hungover from last night.  My spots did calm down, so it was all good!

All the presents are under the tree and the fridge is fully stocked. MBM is here and I’m feeling very Christmasy!

I just want to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a fantabulous new year.

So, I’ve had a sudden outbreak of spots just before Christmas. Any ideas of how I can get rid, and fast? I have a Christmas party to go to in less than 48 hours!!!

I can’t believe Christmas is nearly here. I can’t believe how organised I am. All of the presents are wrapped and under the tree, apart from mine, but hubby is downstairs wrapping them now as we speak. I have five presents, hubby has about ten! Can you believe we got got the other almost exactly the same Christmas card?

This year is the first Christmas in our house, the first Christmas as a married couple, the first Christmas spent with my MBM and the first Christmas dinner I have ever cooked!!

We also got our customary bottle of wine from TWWOTW. It just goes to show how well she knows her staff. Every year, we get a bottle of red. I don’t drink red. She’s also being scarily nice, to everyone. We think it’s because she’s realised that she’s not doing something right because all her staff are leaving. Although, she’s convinced the only reason we’re leaving is because we’re all young and need to progress in our careers. The fact that one girl who left was nearly fifty, didn’t cross her mind.

Oh well, only ten more working days until I start my fantastic new job!!

Wind Down

I have three weeks and three days (or just three weeks if you take Christmas and new year into account) left in my old job, and already I’m on total wind down.

I’m bored. There’s not much training going on, some of it I can do, some of it, I can’t, because it’s all to do with projects that happened while I was on my secondment. There’s no point in me learning that as I’m leaving soon, so I’m bored!

I went out with my new team on Friday night, in Birmingham. We had such a fantastic night and everybody was so nice. I am 110% sure I have made the right move. I can’t wait for the new year to come so that I can start my shiny new job.

So much has happened this year, it’s all been mad. Moving house, my brother’s wedding, my wedding, two secondments, hubby’s new job, my new job. I’m not really sure what we’re going to so with ourselves next year.

I guess that’s the beauty of it. You don’t know what lies ahead, and although sometimes you’d like to know, finding out is the fun bit!!

Freak or Chic? #2

Marrying your brother’s wife’s identical twin sister? So a guy, has a brother. This brother is married. The brothers wife has an identical twin sister, and the guy marries her.

A little to close for comfort, or perfectly normal?

Comments with your opinions please…..

She Never Fails to Amaze me….

Today was my first day back at base, lucky me!!

WWOTW wasn’t in as she was in a meeting somewhere, but she still manages to push my buttons. I came home in a foul mood. As I presume I will do for the next four and a half weeks. Lucky for hubby it isn’t for long and Christmas is in between.

To cut a long story short, she found out last week that I’d been for an interview and stood a good chance of getting the job because a my new company phoned the office and asked to speak to my line manager (who is lovely) for a reference. However, the big boss took the call and spoke to them and found out that way. Not ideal, but she should’ve said straight away that they were talking to the wrong person.

She gave my line manager a right b*llocking for not telling her that I’d gone for it, and my line manager said that it wasn’t certain I’d got the job (even though it was) just to get her off her case and to buy me a bit more time.

As soon as she found out, she got on to HER boss to tell him I might be leaving. And not only that, she told another one of my colleagues that I might be too. So totally unprofessional.  Had I not got the job and she told her boss that I might be leaving, that would have put me in such an awkward situation. I’m so angry with her it’s untrue.

I’ve asked for an exit interview. I swear, if I wasn’t leaving, I’d be going through the grievance procedure right about now….
