Like the majority of bloggers taking part in this tribute, I didn’t know the man I’m writing about. And like many of the other bloggers, I wasn’t quite sure what to write about somebody I’d never met.
Dennis M Carey died on September 11th 2001 in the World Trade Centre. He was there trying to save the lives of the thousands of people trapped inside.
Dennis was a family man, he had a wife and 2 children. He worked hard as a New York City fire-fighter for almost two decades, and for seven years before he died, he’d begun working with Hazardous Materials Company 1 in Queens.
He loved to travel with his wife and 2 children. He spent Sunday September 9th at Robert Moses with his wife, children and some good friends. He spent a happy and relaxed day there and even had a seagull steal his hamburger.
Dennis also loved to do home cooking. Gourmet cooking at that. He had every Bon Appetit magazine going back 15 years and the recipe had to be followed exactly. No improvisations were allowed.
His claim to fame was that when he was at a Diana Ross concert in Madison Square Gardens, she picked him out of the audience during her performance of “Muscle” and he was on stage with her. His picture was in the papers the next day.
Dennis is a man I would’ve been honoured to know. He brought happiness, laughter and love to many people.
He died doing a job he loved. He died doing something he was proud of.
I hope you are at peace.
Thank you for writing such a wonderful tribute and introducing Dennis to our family. You can visit Mr. Bondarenko’s at http://sarah-n-dipitous.com and Mr. Marino’s at http://treefortenterprises.com.
that must’ve been really hard to write. you paid tribute to him well
Hey SweetS!!
I’m so glad that you got your secure place. I’m not sure that I could move all my stuff over, but it would make my own blogging experience much more enjoyable if i could rant and rave about who or what I wanted to. Thanks for the address and link. Love to you and the hubby!! m.
i didn’t do a tribute, i don’t know anyone who was touched by this and i think it would have been too hard for me to come up with something for someone i didn’t know. i wouldn’t have felt i did it justice.
you’ve done a wonderful job with yours, i’ve read some very moving ones over the course of the day.
You did an excellent job remembering Dennis. I like that he’s dancing with Sponge Bob. Shows he has a sense of humor. Too many take themselves too seriously. He obviously didn’t. He will be missed.
Thank you. Dennis is my uncle & Godfather. As 9/11/08 (and as 9/11/ of every year previous and to come) I tend to do a search for his name. See if any new tributes have been added.
He will forever be in our hearts and it is such an honor to know that other people still care.
Sincerely,
Michelle Carey
